Has anyone come up with a good location to store a second gas bottle? Apart from the anchor well I can't see any other self draining locations and having to move the bottle every time I anchor seems a pain. Bright ideas welcomed. Thanks

I used to keep the second bottle in the anchor locker but it got very rusty from salt water. I now keep it in the shallow locker in the cockpit, in a dry bucket. Although this locker does not have a proper drain, it is shallow, not very large and has a reasonable airflow. Also the spare bottle has a screw down seal (Camping Gaz 907) that should avoid any possibility of leakage. There is minimal risk of explosion IMHO.

I still keep the petrol for the outboard in the anchor locker, though, in a plastic (non rusting) container. I believe the risk of a petrol explosion is greater than a gas explosion.

I've managed to fit my petrol can (by buying one of the right shape) in the stbd  rope locker which does drain but I think my wife will draw the line at storing gas in the cockpit locker (even if I accept your argument).

I've found this as a cheap and ready made cover to help reduce corrosion

Maybe you should (very gently) point out to your wife that the flash point of petrol is around -40C (i.e. it will always vaporise to form an explosive mixture with air) and it is (usually) contained in cheap plastic fuel 'cans' with poorly sealed caps. The containers can easily distort or be punctured and leak.

Gas is stored in substantial metal containers with screw down metal caps and proper seals.

Need I say more?

Why is it that the gaz always run out when on summer trip and the furthest away from any supplier...

We now got a 2.5 kg spare bottle next to the 10L diesel, 5L gasoline and a webasto heater...

If you go down in flames let it go so it is visible on the whole horizionLOL
