    Posted: 15 June 2006 at 09:16

I am just getting my 341 ready for the season here. Once again had the problem of the fore-cabin door not closing when I tensioned the rig to my satisfaction. (Not an expert rigger). As before had to reduce the rig tension to release the deformation of, I assume, the coach roof.

Any other members had similar problems? I know it is not unknown as two Hanse dealers have told me they have heard of this.

Now I anxiously wait to see how bad my mast 'panting' is when I get out to sea.

Happy sailing all.

Franko

Hi Franko, explain please what kind of feeling you have when you try to close the door. Is it jamming on the side or above? And how much tension do you use (do you use a Loose gauge?). It seem a bit akward because the door is fitted in plywood and that don't deform I believe?? Or make a picture so we can see whta the problem is.

Hi Frank,

The door hits the frame at the top. starboard side edge. Release the rig tension a bit and it clears. I will try to take a photo later.

No, haven't used a gauge but thinking about that now. Any idea what the tensions should be or where I can fins out?

Cheers

Franko

Okee thanks for your reply! It is strange that your doorframe hits the door. There must be a awefull lot of tension being used. I use a Loose gauge meter for tension the rig. It is too much to explain but: you may use for our type of ships a maximum of 20% of the bracking strenght of the rig.

Just sail to the Netherlands and I will hlp you

Good luck!

Hi Franko,

With Linka we had initially the same problem. When we fetched Linka in Greifswald, the front cabin door was working fine, but at arrival in Antwerp it hits the top starboard edge of the door frame. We had the rigger from the Hanse dealer check and adjust the tension on the rig, but no significant improvement. The rigger told me that a rig has always to set and the boat will adapt. Sub sequentially we lowered the door hinges by 5mm and since then no problems.

regards,

Luc

Thanks for that input Luc.

I am less nervous now. So, do I re-tension the rig as I like it and lower the door or do I go for a reduced tension. Hmmmm?

Frank, so what is the breaking strain of our rig?

Thanks both for assistance/advice.

p.s. Frank, might well sail from Sweden to U.K. next spring so watch out for me.
