It is mainly slime, though at that stage in 2015 we did get the big build up of weed around the saildrive.  More recently I have only been seeing slime but I do get Hobo lifted and cleaned mid-season now which makes a big difference.

Hi,
I use International Trilux 33:  on the Saildrive leg, the folding propellor,  the top 3" of the rudder and an area of the hull around the rudder stock 6" diameter. This is to avoid any chance of copper based antifouling [Hempels Tiger extra] causing corrosion on the Aluminium of the saildrive or the rudder stock.
I clean hull and apply one coat of antifouling twice a year.
The Trilux areas never show as much slime as the rest of hull.
Trilux is very expensive but one 375 ml can has lasted 6 anti-foulings [3 yrs sailing]
Yacht based in river Medina, sails Solent, and this year sailed slowly [4 months] round GB anti-clockwise.

Hi Allen

Did you haul out in Jan and what did the fouling look like?

Now that is spooky - I had Hobo lifted this morning and she looked in remarkably good state considering she has not moved since late October.  Mainly slime and a skirt of thin weed at the waterline.  All washed off really easily and the anti-fouling underneath looks in pretty good condition.  so seems the Tiger Extra has been pretty good.  Excuse the fisheye effect of my gopro on the first one.

Thanks Alan

I think you previously mentioned you'd lifted and cleaned Hobo mid season?. I also used Tiger Extra but from April to Nov it gradually grew weed. Maybe you cleaned it towards the end of the 'growing season?. I've bought Shogun to try this year.

Yes I had the bottom water blasted in July when the boat came out to get the problem with the rudder tightening up fixed (it is nice and light now).  I'd also taken to giving the hull a scrape with one of those Scrubbis brushes when I was down for races.  That made quite a difference to the main parts of the hull that I could reach as you could see the slime come off as you brushed.  I was very sceptical about those but have been partially converted.

Hope the Shogon works well - give us all an update at the end of the season!
