I've decided to have a Vetus Bow thruster ( type Bow 75 ) installed on my Hanse 371. My local dealer ( who will do the installation ) has not yet installed a bow thruster on a Hanse ( 371 ) before.
Does anybody have experience / suggestions for such a task ? What to do with the wiring ? Any help will be much appreciated. greetz,
Koen

Hello everybody,
Does anybody have a bow-thruster (tunnel) installed in a 371? We have changed marina, our new berth is kind of tight. A thruster can help us not to be blown sideways into our neighbours. Is it possible to install a thruster, tunnel, in front of the watertank? Anyone have photos? Thanks, All the best, Leif |

Hello,
In 2006 I decided to have a Vetus Bowthruster installed. I opted for the Vetus Bow 75 with a 185 mm diameter tunnel. There is ample place in front of the watertank. I placed a Vetus 105 amp battery under the port side settee. I'm very happy with how this bowthruster works. If you need more pictures or info send me a PM. Greetz, Koen

I also have a Vetus bow thruster fitted on my 341 with a 150mm tunnel. This is virtually identical to the 371 in the area ahead of the water tank and I brought a complete kit from Vetus.com in UK, which gave everything needed to fit it at a very good price. This was supplied with the tunnel, motor, battery, cables and connectors and these are all fitted in the area identified. The only additional requirement was a charging feed in appropriate size cables from your main battery charger/Alternator and this was installed down the port side and into the battery just behind the thruster.
I had similar issues with tight mooring and the wind and tide doesn't help. With the thruster it gives you more confidence and makes leaving and arrival far less stressful. Hope this helps and good luck with the install. |

Thanks, much appreciated. The photos are very informative. I`m in the process of negotiating prices, and it is nice to have "proof" that that a tunnel-thruster is possible on a "flat-bottomed" Hanse.
best regards Leif

You need to consider locating the battery for this as near as possible to the thruster or it may not work as you expect due to current loss. The connections supplied by Vetus are short to ensure the full power required is available. This means the battery needs to be adjacent to the motor and may dictate the position of the tunnel to ensure space is available for sitting the battery next to it.

Hello, As shown on one of the pictures ( with a red Arrow ) the location is about 2 meters ( 6.56 feet ) from the electric motor. Considering the distance they used the recommended cable by Vetus. I think they used 75mm2. ( can be more ) Greetz, Koen |

I am surprised as my kit came from Vetus with a 1 metre red and black cable and instructions to fit as close as possible. not that it will not work with more distance between battery and motor but requires much thicker copper.
