A new pilot book has just been published which I have bought and it seems to be excellent. It's called "Channel Islands, Cherbourg Peninsular & North Brittany" by Peter Carnegie. I bought it discounted 10% from sailingbooks.co.uk.

Hello all

We're currently planning the Channel Isles trip for August 1st - 12th, so if it's not too late for the pontoon party, we'll aim to be there.

I am leaving for the Channel islands on Wednesday ( subject to my daughter getting the all clear on Tuesday from her surgeon following a serious illness) I will be single handed but I cannot leave not knowing her state of health.
Plan is to go via French coast & I intend to be in St Peter Port by 17 June until 24Th. Then I am off to Camaret then back to St PP end of July on my way to Ostende for the Paulusfestein on 08 August

So hopefully I can get sociable long enough to relieve some poor unsuspecting Hanse owner of his whiskey before they know it

So might we see you in Dover Wednesday evening? Unfortunately, not on our boat as it will still be in Medway until the following week, but I don't mind driving to yours to show you how to open your old and dusty Lidl.

Plan is to go straight to Boulogne assuming wind Ok. Forecast says it will be. Will be passing Dover about 20-00 -21-00 hours so will not be there until very late if I do actually stop there
Sorry

How is Boulogne? Haven't been for a few years. One of my possibilities is to go there and then on to Dieppe, then over to Cherbourg - how long would the Dieppe/Cherbourg leg be?

I did a 5 day test sail 2 weeks ago after my boat was launched to Boulogne Dover & Ramsgate. As luck would have it there was a public holiday & everywhere was shut !!! However, as it warms up the beach will have loads of land yachts, The dockside markets will open & the cafes in the old town will open up.
After Boulogne it will be Dieppe - which is quite nice. I like to stroll up the high street & get a few beers in the street side cafes. Then I go the 50 miles to le Havre. I could stop off at Fecamp or go a bit further & cross the Sein & go to Honfleur. I have always meant to do that but somehow never get the time. i also fancy going in to Ouistreham past the Pegasus bridge & 6 miles up the canal to Caen. I might go on the way back if I have time
From Le Havre I go to Cherbourg - about 75 miles. I do these ports because they are all 24 hour entry & that is important being single handed. i do not want to anchor or stand off if things get rough. Fecamp, Ouisterham & Honfleur need a carefully timed entry.
Dieppe to Cherbourg is 109 miles but the shipping going into the Sein make that crossing a bit difficult for me as strict watch keeping is imperative

Sam, on reflection, I think I should go on to Le Havre and then to Cherbourg. Thanks for the info. However, I have never been into Le Havre, having always opted to bypass it in favour of the country delights of Ouistram. It looks easy enough though.
