Hi,
I'm looking to buy a Hanse 371 from 2001. During the visit of the boat, I found that the height in the salon seem to be low (approx. less than 1,90m) compared to a Hanse from 2004, which I had seen before.

Looking to the pictures of different 371, I found out that Hanse has made a redesign of the deck between 2002 and 2003.

Does anybody know other differences between the 371 from 2002 and 2003. Especially are there any differences concerning the rigg?

Thank you!

Hi Karina,

As I understand it, Hanse raised the freeboard by increasing the height of the hull sides (approx 5cm I believe). The rig remained the same dimensions. The interior gained headroom and the interior floor configuration changed. The coachroof window configuration also changed over the years 2003 - 2004.

Later 371s gained opening ports outboard to the rear cabins.

Hi Bob,

thanks for your answer. For me it is important to have the same rig in order to have the same sailing performance.

Another difference seems to be the aft interior configuration. She has on portside a big aft cabin and on starboard a spare room for sails, dingys etc. But he door to the spare room is a full door with full heights. I found that very usefull.

She is very well maintained and in a very good condition, so I am going to buy #32  :-)

Thanks for your answer. #32 has two opening ports for the spare room, but not for the portside aft cabin.

I have one of the early Hanse 371s with the lower freeboard. I'm 1,88 M tall but find the headroom OK. I prefer the looks of the lower freeboard model and also find it easier to get aboard from the side.

One thing to watch for on #32 is the chainplates. There has been at least one failure, discussed elsewhere in the forum. Strengthening them is fairly easy whereas the damage in the event of failure is catastrophic.

I love my 371 and I'm sure you will too.

Hi All,

I am looking at purchasing a 371 when ever a suitable one comes up. I am fairly tall and would be very interested if someone has more detailed information on when exactly did dis increase in hull height take place? I have sailed a 2005 version for a couple of weeks and remember that the height was good for me, but would not like to reduce it by 5 cm...

Thanks in advance!

In the specification for the 2004 model it says:

Salon
ca. 1,89 m Stehhöhe

We have the 2005 model and I'm 1.92 and it works fine   Smile

Yes, I am also 190 cm and the 2005 model which I have sailed was fine for me. I was concerned that some of the earlier models may not have enough standing height for me if there has been a change in hull (freeboard) height at some point.

I sent an email to hanse after sails support and they were not aware of any change during the production of 371 that would affect the standing height. So I am wondering where does this change in height -claim originate...?

The 2004 model has the same layout and same standing height as 2005. The only difference is new design of foot rail and new non slip. Between 2003 and 2004 they changed the layout of the windows and as I recall also brand of Engine (from Volvo to Yanmar). I don't know if the sallon height was changed for 2003 or 2004. There was also a redesig of the transom 2003 or 2004.
