After all the horror stories about brass seacocks I decided to replace
them this year as the boat is now 10 yeas old. The heads outlet was
replaced a couple of years ago with a Blakes.
No visible pink discolouration was visible on the through hulls form the
outside of the boat after scraping and filing.
After removal there was only a very slight amount of dezincification
on one of the 3 seacocks. The heads
inlet under the sink. I cut through all
the parts for inspection. The pink colour was ‘just’ visible where the salt
water touched the inside of the through hull.
The valve, elbows and hose tails were all in good condition with the
exception of the chrome ball in the valves that was showing signs of corrosion.
I can see no ‘CR’ markings on any of the old parts so I assume they plain
brass. I dont think the boat would have sunk in the near future. |

Hi Mike,
Thanks for sharing that information. I was alarmed by the the multiple stories and advices, not only on this forum, but also in respected magazines. As was unsure about the plain brass or CR brass composition of Jutters' seacocks ( no visible marks) I plan(ned?) the replacement of the seacocks for next season. Your findings are somehow putting me a bit more at ease about this. I join the question of Graham342: what model and from what year is your boat? And has she been al the time in salt water? Claude |

It's a 2007 320.
I think that boats of this era had brass fittings. |

When I changed mine last year, the piece in the hose from the toilet was all gone. Just pure luck it had not fallen apart.
Else the seacocks was reddish over half through. I would have changed NOW!

I changed the holding tank through hull completely in 1 1/2 inch Trudesign just last week
I had previously changed the ball valve and horsetail in DZR five years ago but was concerned that I could see corrosion where it joined the existing elbow The through hole fitting was fine but the elbow quite pink in colour 370e. 2007 Keith |

I have swaped 3 original underwater through hull for truDesign when the yacht was only 3 years old.
They were already 'pink' and orignal one valve was complletely useless. I still have two original through hull just above waterline (shower & sink output). They turn pink. I plan to swap them next year.
