Hi all,
This switch keeps blowing the fuse when we try to turn it on. What does it do - and what could be the cause? Best regards, Anders S/Y Kavian |

This is for your Water-Heater! Unplug the heater and try again. If you Plug the heater in again, make sure you have water in your freshwatersystem.
If the Fuse still does not work when the heater is plugged in, than your waterheater is possibly defect! Edited by Peter-Blake - 02 October 2017 at 07:16 |

Anders,
This probably means the 220V heating element in the water heater is faulty. To remove the element you need to turn off the 220V power to the boat (shore power), turn off your 12V water pump, drain the water out of the heater, undo the wiring to the element, pull the thermostat out of the center of the heater and then you can unscrew the heater element out of the heater. You can buy a special at a plumbing shop to fit the recessed element nut. The tube type spanner is the best. Check what size your element is - ours is 55 mm. The element is likely to be encrusted with "lime scale" and will probably be ruptured. Check the wattage of the old element eg 600W and buy a replacement of the same wattage. You can often buy a not marine replacement at a plumbing shop. The marine version normally has long pencil like anode screwed into the face of the element which sits parallel to the heating tubes. A company like SVB can normally supply a replacement marine heating element and the anode. Do the reverse to put the unit back together. Make sure you fill the heater with water before turning on the heating element switch. If access it difficult you may need to move or remove the whole heater from the boat. The heating element is about 30 cms long so you need this amount of space to be able to pull the element (and thermostat) out. If removing the whole heater it you will need to disconnect the water heating hoses coming from the engine. Clamp off the feed and return engine heater hoses close to the heater before removing these hoses. Some engine coolant will drain out of the hoses inside the heater when you undo these coolant hoses. Good luck with it. |

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. It does indeed sound like this could be the issue.
The water-pump would go on for a couple of seconds every other minute, as if there was a leakage in the water system. As we sailed some rough seas in the Baltics, we really got thrown around and experienced some hard impacts on the big waves. At one point during the night, we discovered fresh water under the floor - a lot of it. And our water tank was almost empty. Suspect this might be due to the waterheater failing? Perhaps a tube was loose and got knocked out of it's o-ring completely? Next step will be to locate the water heater! Any suggestions as to where that might be hiding (3-cab. version of the Hanse 350, 2008) .. hm hmm :-) Best regards, Anders S/Y Kavian |

Hi Anders, In my H 350 (2010, 2 cabin) the water boiler is located under a removable wooden cover in the port locker/cabin.Have a look under the mattress!

So a little update on our electrical issues.
It turns out, the waterheater was leaking to such a degree, that it filled up the entire holding area for the watertank, flooding the 240v outlet which the heater is connected to. No wonder the fuses blew! We tighten the water pipe, and fixed the leak. Next issue; The house batteries didn't recharge when engine was running. Found the little fuse next to the generator, and changed that. Problem fixed. Last issue (for now!); even though we fixed the water from the waterheater, we kept getting fresh water in the boat. After some searching it seems there is a leak in the water system above the waterpumps in the bathroom .. next up, we'll pull out the mirror and have a look .. If anyone has any ideas - keep me posted - I'll keep you posted on our findings (and hopefully solution!). Regards, Anders. S/Y Kavian.

Try to add a expansion tank! This will help to reduce the pressure in the system, when the water is getting hot. Hanse did not use an expansion tank, a big mistake!. Since we added the tank, there is no problem anymore with any waterleak in our system! Our boat is from 2008! Since 7 years the system works perfect now!

Aha, for sure that's our problem.
Found the holding tank, and a very leaking hot water pipe behind the mirror. Added some yarn(?) and grease to the fittings, and it seems to hold tight for now. Care to share a little more information on the installation you made? Thanks a lot, Anders.

We added this tank:
https://www.svb.de/de/marco-niro-druckausgleichstank.html Just cut somewhere the fresh water hose in your system and add this into it. I put it into the coldwaterline just behind the pump (between pump and any faucet). In our boat it is under the washbasin in the "bathroom", as there is also the pump placed. |
