Hello everyone,
I am a hanse 385 owner. All of a sudden yesterday there was no indication of wind speed shown in the B&G Triton multifuctional display. Instead of the speed and the ankle there was only dots. Note I have a Zeus Ploter 8 Touch display. I have climbed the mast just to check but no chance at all. I am just wondering what it may been. Looking forward to hearing back from. Any help would be important. Best regards, Nikos |

Hi this could be for a number of reasons, when we first got our 415 in 2014 we had this happen twice as the mast head unit manufactured around then was very susceptible to electric storm activity, one time lightning over one Km away fried the unit. B&G accepted this and replaced the units for us.
There is a diagnostics page on Zeus plotter so you can start there as it should tell you if it can see the mast head unit, if it can't try unplugging the data lead from the mast head unit, turn on turn off, plug it back in and try again. Good luck Paul

The mast unit failed also after two years for no apparent reason on our 385. B&G replacced it at no cost.

It sounds as if the unit has failed. Sometimes when a sensor (speed, depth, wind) fails it affects the whole system. It’s happened to me 3 times. Should your other data disappear the usual short-term fix is to unplug the masthead cable from the connector block (in the ceiling under the mast) & insert a terminating resistor. This normally restores the other information on the system.
If you need to replace the unit then you should benefit from the B & G extended warranty. They should be a full replacement within 2 years and a half-price replacement upto 5 years. For this they require that the system was fitted by an approved installer. No problem here as Hanse did it. If a technician tests the unit & confirms it dead, it will have to be sent back for testing and a new unit shipped to you at your cost. Hope this is of help. As you can see I know the ins & outs of this situation!! Nigel |

I think the B&G instruments are covered for 3 years for a new Hanse.
I also went through 2 replacement mast head units (and one speed/log) under warranty. You should use your MFD for verify if the masthead device is still visible on the network. If it is, look at the raw data to see if it is actually sending anything. If the data is there maybe you just need to reset the data source for wind? |

We had the same problem when our masthead unit electronics were fried by the passing lightning storm, we were not directly hit. Had to replace electronic part of the sensor for whopping 450 Eur...
To get the rest of the B&G working you need to unplug the masthead sensor from the simtalk bus where your electric board is, ours was under the chart table somewhere on 445.

We had our wind display go bad as well. It turns out it was NOT the masthead unit at all, but a bad NMEA 2000 connection. Someone in the factory had jammed a connector in too hard, and all it took was the boat hitting a hard wave to raise/expose the connector issue and cause wind to disappear. The way to diagnose this was to keep segregating / isolating parts of the network until wind came back. In other words, simplify the network so the wind instrument comes back (at least in our case it did) by moving one close to the Zeus, then build the network back up again segment by segment and device by device until the wind instrument goes away. That segment/device introduced the problem. Ugly problem, and most of the B&G service techs were "trying things" in my opinion and not exhibiting proper diagnostic approaches. When I escalated the problem to the national B&G guys, the sent their top guy out and things got fixed in an hour. Assuming you have NMEA 2000 (you said Zeus), so.. a thought. FWIW
