An issue with the Simrad RF25 Rudder Feedback has occurred that causes the autopilot to not operate properly. The problem is that rf25 reports between 0 and upto 30 degrees when it should be 0. Even if you do not touch the steering wheel, it may flicker between the correct value and an incorrect value. Have others experienced the same problem and possibly have a solution? /H8jer

It might be worth trying part of the autopilot dockside commissioning tests. There is one test specifically for calibrating the rudder feedback unit. You just have to turn the wheel from lock to lock. It is very simple. Look it up in the autopilot manual. My copy is on the boat so I can't give anymore details at the moment but I did the commissioning tests on High Time a couple of months ago when I altered the fixing point for the drag link and can assure you it was straightforward with clear instructions on the control head.
If your RF25 is actually faulty then hopefully the test will show this.

I had a similar problem.. It was not the feedback-unit that was faulty! I asked my local Simrad-dealer what to do and they told me to set up the autopilot again from the AP24 panel, not the plotter (NSS7) There had been a conflict between AP24 panel and plotter! (Plotter had to be turned off when new setup was done)
After that everything is ok! I use the plotter to control autopilot...

Thank you for your advice. Based off that I did some tests this morning. The problem has probably arisen between Simrad AP24 and B&G Zeus3. The reason is that I often don't turn on the AP24 as the Zeus can control the autopilot directly. If you turn on the AP24 display when the Zeus has already turned on the autopilot, you can have trouble. So if I first turn on the AP24 and then the Zeus there are no problems. Thanks for the help.

NSE12 and AP24. AP24 shuts down with the message "No Active Control Unit".
After suffering this problem for a long while and quite a few 360 degree spins I find that, as long as the AP24 is switched ON before the NSE is switched ON, the fault does not occur or is greatly reduced! Software problem? Is this a known fault? |

Problem might be due to nmea2000 commands being repeated by the Chartplotter. The autopilot AP12 might get confused. My solution is to only use the Chartplotter to control the autopilot. AP24 is only turned on if I need to do maintance to the AP12. |
