This Easter my partner and I continued our journey south. Having spent a year and a half (on and off) in French waters, we decided to sail across the biscay to the western corner of Spain. Great selling for 24 hours, then the wind died and we had to motor for another 24. We saw lots of dolpins, a few commercial ships but no sailboats. But all in all a great journey.

Hi,
This is an interesting topic for me as I am considering the same sort of passage later this year from UK waters. What Hanse is your boat and where did you sail/motor between on your 2 x 24 hour periods? BTW, good luck with your preparation and trip. |

Thanks John, Robh here is a some more information for you; We sailed from the Bordeaux area down to La Coruna which was about 360 nm. Average speed about 7 knots with about 8 knots the first 24 hours and 6 knots going for motor the last 24 hours. 6 knots is a very comfortable cruising speed with low noise level from the engine. Our boat is a Hanse 545 which we are quite pleased with. She sails well also in a bit of wind and waves.
