Yesterday I replaced the halogen bulbs of my cabin lights with LED. When I opened the lamp over the table, I found that the halogen bulb which was in the right version of 10 watts has melted and partially burned the lamps housing. Very strange feeling to think about a fire in the cabin roof and even a reason more, to switch to LED. Edited by Frederick - 26 February 2017 at 13:57 |

May be that the original version from Hanse has 5W, but I bought the boat last year with 10W bulbs installed which is exactly what is written on the lamp as allowed. I don't want to blame anyone about this but I want to warn other owners to check their boats for this potential risk. |

Hi Frederick,
The original lamps fitted on the 341, which is basically the same boat as the 342 were 10 watt Halogen and some of my lamp fittings still have 10 watt Halogen capsule lamps in place as I consider the light is better. Looking at the condition of the fitting you picture here my opinion is that is the result of a faulty contact in the fitting. Whilst Halogen lamps do get hot and you are right this is a good reason to change to LED I don't believe a 10 watt lamp would cause that in a fitting designed for and most likely marked MAX 10 watt, unless the contacts are faulty. However, you are right it is worth checking for this kind of damage as even though LED's draw a lot less current there is still the possibility of arching if the contacts are faulty, with similar effects. |

You are right, it was 10 W max. and the bulbs have also been with 10W. If you look at the pictures, you can see that the heat obviously came from the bulb and not from the fitting. I heard, that there are 10W bulbs which produce lesss heat, but I#M not sure about this. With the LED light colour you are right, the earlier ones had a very cold light. The ones I now have mounted have been sold as warmwhite and they definetly are. I can't see a difference between halogen and LED expect the LED's with 2 W give a little bit more light than the old 10W halogen ones. Heiko

I had the same problem. Does anyone know whether the light fittings are still available - and a recommended supplier.
Thanks Russ
