Hi guys

I thought I would start a new post for this one. The previous post seemed to narrow in on the rudder housing.

On a recent trip to Belgium we spent 15 hours fighting the North Sea chop. At the end I discovered 2 inches (or using the metric system 2.0 inches Big smile) of salt water in the bilge. The water was blue rather than the usual North Sea green!

I fitted a Purytec inline toilet cleaner last year. It has worked very well. I checked the cartridge and it was completely empty - normally they last months and the cartridge was replaced a few weeks ago. The fittings were still tight and there was no water in the heads (the fitting is directly behind the Jabsco on the inlet/fresh side of the pump). The hose was also firmly attached at the skin fitting valve.

My assumption is that the slamming against the waves could have caused pressure in the hose which forced the Purytec/sea water mix out and into the bilge. I do not see how it could be after the toilet or holding tank as the cartridge would not have emptied. I did wonder it there is an anti-syphon fitting in the line under the heads sink - a good idea if you are relying on the Purytec fitting although that pipe should be in "vacuum" from the hand pump - but I am no longer at the boat. I suppose that the pressure from the waves could be causing a failing anti-syphon fitting to squirt water? Or a split in the hose?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Russ

Is there any evidence of the bottle leaking, or the loo flooding over, because i can't really think how else this happened. There is no antisyphon on Echo, nor a loop in the heads. If we are heeled over the loo can flood over if we don't lock the handle.

Hi Steve

The bathroom was completely dry. We were on starboard the whole trip but there was nothing in the shower tray or the bowl. I did have a previous fitting which split - and water syphoned through hence thoughts of the anti-syphon - but nothing this time. Hence the mystery.....
