A question below addressed the suitability of a Hanse for "blue water" cruising.  It prompted me to wonder what sort of long range cruising have owners accomplished on their boats.  In particular, off shore passages rather than coastal cruising.

I know that "Megawatt" did the ARC, and I know of a 531 currently in the Med on its way to Australia.

What is the longest passage you have made? (Days, miles or km), what model yacht, and how many people in the crew?  Any particular problems or interesting incidents?

My personal experience is all coastal, with the longest passage being three days.

my longest passage was between Dartmouth, UK and Blankenberge, Belgium.
I just bought my ship, a Hanse 371.
Together with 3 friends we made the passage and covered about 320 NM in 40 hours.
It was a trip I will never forget.
A combination of fantastic sailing, some problems ( a rope got caught in the propeller ) and scary weather( waterspouts )
My 371 proved to be what it was designed for : a reliable seaworthy boat that keeps it's crew safe and happy.

We've done Biscay a couple of times but last took 4 days in lightish fickle airs from Plymouth to Bayona in our 461.

Used half a tank of fuel en-route to keep up to a minimum 6 knots boastspeed, but still s great sail.

More detail in out blog - address below.

Cheers

JOHN

No longer a Hanse owner - but loved the one we had!
