Hi,
I have a sail drive rope stripper on a 400.  In June last year I replaced the anodes which were well worn.  In November I lifted her out and was surprised to see how much of the new anode was worn.  I have been advised a second form of corrosion protection should be used - perhaps a hull anode with continuity to the sail drive.

Does anyone have experience of hull anodes - or additional corrosion protection?

Cheers
Balford

David - how did your anode bonded to the rudder stock do - I have just had a survey and the surveyor pointed out some pitting at the point where the rudder stock exits the lower bearing (ie just outside the hull).

Hi George bolt the anode through the hull as close to the rudder stock as possible, then on the inside of the boat connect a earth wire to the anode bolt and the rudder quadrant.

Hi Balford

Do you have a Volvo or Yanmar?

The Volvo sail drive is insulated from the engine, and if dirt or moisture make a partial electrical contact, then you will get stray currents going through your saildrive. I have a Volvo saildrive and after two years the anode is nearly as good as new.
