Does anyone have a third reef point in the main.  I wasn't going to bother at first but have now had the sail done and I am wondering about the best way to run the lines.  If I follow the route of the 1st and 2nd reef lines there is no hole in the boom to take the line up to the tack before going down to the mast block.

From an earlier message on the 341/342 forum, came the idea that on that type of boat there are two pulleys at the front end of the boom pointing downwards.  One will be for the boom outhaul.  The suggestion was to take the reefing line that had come from the rear of the boom down through the other pulley, around a pulley fitted lower on the mast above the kicking strap fitting and then take this line back up to the luff reefing point and then back down to the base of the mast.

I have just bought a 341 and am intending to try this out, as though it will mean a lot of rope in the cockpit, I like the idea of doing all the reefing without going to the mast.   This is especially important as we will normally only be sailing two up.

Safety says if you have to use a strop on the tack at the mast, then put it on the first reef and do the other reefs from the cockpit when it gets windy.  Convenience says do the reefs you will use most from the cockpit and hope you never have to struggle forward to the mast in a force 7 on a big sea.

thanks for the replies. I was hoping to just repeat the Ist two reefs so there is no need to go forward to reef and there is a spare sheave to do it. Looks like my current neighbour Trist has the answer.

I will be down at Brixham this weekend so hope to see you.  With a bit of luck you might have similar mast and boom.
