Our sailing this summer will take us south, and we would like to sail to Amsterdam by the Ijsselmeer in Holland. Perhaps watch the World cup final Holland vs Germany on big sceen in Amsterdam?? Our boats draft is 2,80 m - is it possible to go the inland route? Any other advice whould be greatly appreciated.

As far as I can remember 2.80 m ist far too much for the inland route. Hope that some Hanse friends her ( Ralf-T. Aletta,..... ) can come up with more info and more Details for your route planning.

I guess it is possible to take the route over the Ijsselmeer to Amsterdam, but you will have to navigate a bit carefully. Overall the Ijsselmeer is a bit shallow (compared to Norway anyway) but in general about 5 mtrs deep. However there are spots that are considerably shallower, so make sure you have a recent map and stick to the routes (for instance, from the locker at Kornwederzand in the north, stay between the buoys for the first couple of miles, and the same after the locker in Enkhuizen). I think 2,8 draft even allows you to enter most of the old harbor towns on te way (like Stavoren, Enkhuizen, Hoorn). They are lovely so plan some time to visit them.
In Amsterdam You can take a berth at the new Amsterdam Marina. That is in the Noordzee kanaal which is the canal used by oceangoing ships (deep enough so). Straight from the harbor you can take the city ferry (free and only 200 mgr walk) into the centre of Amsterdam.

Thank you for your information. We opted not to go into
the Ijsselmeer but choose the outside
route. This summer cursing took us from Norway, to Denmark, Germany, Holland, Belgium,
France, Guernsey and back to France. We spend 5 weeks, visited 12 harbors and
sailed about 1100 nm - wonderful trip Next year we will continue our journey south from our new home port in
France. Cheers |
