Hi Tim - Here's the data on my 415 in case you don't find the specifics for 385 (not sure how different the fridges are between those models). The main fridge on my boat uses 4 amps at steady state. The small drawer fridge uses 2 amps. The main fridge plus the smaller drawer fridge use an average of 55Ah per day, in ambient temperatures between 15C and 24C. i.e., they run about 38% of the time. Good luck! -Scott |

FYI - this inspired me to post my whole set of data on power consumption:

Hi Scott
Thanks - very useful and the numbers on your list are very interesting. I just want to check my logic with you please - - I think the main fridge on the 385 and 415 are the same - so if my fridge, like yours, draws 4 AMPs, when working - my fridge will use 1.53 AMPs per Hour (38% of 4 AMPs) - and will eat about 36.7 AMPs Correct ? Kind regards Tim

Hi Manyata -
That's about right. One small units correction - it will use 36.7 Amp-Hours per day. i.e., an amp is a rate. An amp-hour is a quantity, which you can relate to the capacity of your batteries.

I am not aware of the fridge compressor configuration on the 385, but a common problem is that there is not a lot of air flow around the cooling cools and so the compressor runs for too long a time. I mounted an extra fan to duct air onto the cooling coils on my 341.
I think it has reduced the run time of the compressor. I have recently changed the configuration slightly and installed a new super quiet fan from This fan is so much quieter than the standard compressor fan and much cheaper. I will add photos after my next yachting trip.

Just to add to this.
The fridge uses some power even when not 'cooling'. No idea why but we've found that our fridge draws about .25-.30 amps per hour constantly. So over a day that's what... say- 7-8 extra amps coming out. It's not the light stuck on as I've checked that but there is definatly a power draw coming out as it shows on our battery monitor until I switch the fridge circuit off. Talking about the fridge though is hard, it depends how cold you want it. We've found there's a sweet point of things staying cold but the thing not eating power. But it takes a lot of tweaking and changes due to the outside temp. It's the same by the way with the lighting. Having the lighting circuit on (but with no lights on) draws again about 7-8 amps per day. We make sure this is always off now unless you need lights on. The last one we found was the B&G handheld VHF remote. Don't keep that plugged in. Once charged take it out of the cradle. Again we found we were losing 4-5amps per day just having that always on standby charge. Being long distant cruisers these amps all add up. Maybe none of this matters to you but I thought I'd let you know where some of these amps go. All the best, Simon

Great tips there Simon, I had been noticing the charger coming on more than I would have expected.
