Well folks, thanks for the feedback...  #235, I had the same concerns, but the Yanmar SD-Series manual explicetly describes this as one of two ways to change the oil... so figured I was covered.

Rubato, the next lube change is every 250 hours or "after long storage"

As far as complexity and tools needed goes... might seem difficult, but was actualy quite easy and since I have a compressor on board already and the hand pumps were I one time purchase, did't seem like a big deal to me... but then again... always easier to let someone else do it ;-)

Since my wife and I are out cruising long term, I couldn't really count on being somewhere near a "mechanic" every time I needed this done... figured I might as well bite the bullet day one.
