We also have found that the simple, manual solution referred to by Scot works well - since you really don't need to adjust the main halyard much once you raise the sail, using a finger to make sure the clutch engages the line only adds a second to getting underway and then you are fine the rest of the day. I also cleaned the clutches with a toothbrush and replaced the halyard, but pushing down the cam with a finger is the ticket!
