In October I had a steering cable break. After an initial panic I deployed the emergency tiller but it is very difficult/heavy to steer the boat in 25knots of wind & 1.5 metre waves. After a few minutes I engaged the auto pilot & life returned to normal. As the pilot motor arm acts on the steering quadrant this is the best solution unless going downwind in strong conditions. It was a character building experience! I strongly recommend regular inspection of the system, something I omitted to do if I'm honest.

I contacted Jefa for spares & as usual they were very helpful & parts were dispatched express delivery & received in 3 days.

They sent me 3 PDFs of the system together with an Annual Inspection/Maintainance Guide. This document was not in the Hanse Manual Bag & in my view should have been.

The system is the same on the following models: 345, 385,405, 415,445 & 495.

The PDF's can be found in the Manuals section of the Forum.

Hi thanks for uploading these, we got the system drawings in our manual bag, but not the maintenance guides so very useful.
I totally agree that Hanse should include these in their owner documentation bag
Thanks
Paul
