Do you have an earthing cable connected to the rudder? I think we do - it is a yellow and black cable which I think is connected to the Quadrant and the cable then goes to a hull anode. Some years ago, Hanse informed us that the cable should be disconnected from the Quadrant and I believe later yachts did not have this cable. I believe the reasoning is that without the cable, the rudder is completely isolated because joints to the steering have isolation built in and therefore bonding is not required

It sounds as if your rudder is not isolated.
