I have the standard north main sail.
A few years ago i placed rondstan ball bearing sliders on my battens but i have to climb into the mast to hook on the main halyard.
But in between the battens I have 3 sliders on the sail and I want to change this to only 1 or 2 sliders.
( wenn it can be 1 slider , I can use ronstan ball bearing sliders wich I got at home)
Is some one having experience with this, is the sail stable enough to do so?
Please your reaction off your experence.

Hi marcel.

I have exact that experience.....Shocked

I have also ronstan ball bearing cars on the battens and inbetween. On my main from the yard 2008 i ordered them from the beginning (quite expensive).

It was looking like this:
Between boom and first batten was 1 small slider, same between first and second batten!
Between second and third and also between 3rd and forth batten were 2 sliders.
Between 4th batten and sailhead was 1 slider.

This worked perfect.Thumbs Up

Since last season 2016 i have a new laminate sail with a very nice shape.
The sail has between each batten only 1 slider. They used my old ones but missed to mount 2 of them....The sail is very nice, but they have to change the amount of the inbetween sliders to the same amount like my old original sail. The problem is, that 1 inbetween slider is not enough between 2/3 3/4 on a course with the wind from about 90 degrees. Than the luff starts to flap all the time against the mastprofile. The problem occurs only between 2/3 and 3/4! It is like sailing with a dieselengine. It is impossible to get rid of this sound.

I have a Selden Mast with Selden MDS Sliders. Between the battens I have 2 sliders which allows me just to put on the halyard without climbing- however I'm 188 tall. The MDS Batten sliders are less tall than the Ronstan ones but the middle sliders might be taller than what you have currently.

Folding the main works normally very good (I have no maindrop) however the sail is hanging down the boom quite a lot and I have to tie it around the boom.

The luff is stable enough but I doubt that less sliders would work.

Thank you all , i will go with the 2 sliders between the battencars.
Maybe with cars , maybe with the old sliders.

I installed two steps on my mast (one on each side with one higher than the other) to deal with this problem.
