This is a $16 remote start button. The wiring instructions are right on the MDI. When the MDI or the remote panel dies, you can start the boat from this button and use the stop lever on the engine, starboard side forward, to shut off. Good back up in the event the panel or the MDI dies.

On my boat, both the panel and the MDI officially died at 590 hours, Volvo d2-75F. You might want to add these to Volvo-equipped boats. I think itís an important safety feature. At $16, and maybe ten minutes to wire up, itís cheap insurance.

The MDI and/or panel failures can really freak someone out. And they can be dangerous.
