Hi Bigcat,
It would be really interesting to hear something about your decision taking process. I remember you wanted to test sail the B35 and the J349 before taking any decision and that you still had some doubt to clear off. How comes you took the right decision in the end? |

Congratulations, you'll absolutely love it.
Reasonably inexpensive but really useful given the self tacker is a whisker pole for goose-winging down wind and very broad reaches to avoid the main blanketing the jib. Best of luck. cheers Connan 2011 Hanse 355 "Little Honey", 30hp, 3 cabin |

We test sailed the Hanse while on vacation in the Netherlands and although it pored during the sail we liked the boat :)
I was not able to test sail either the B35 nor the J349. We did test sail the B38 and found a couple of things we did not like: - the cockpit is very wide with barely an option to brace yourself - especially critical for a 5 yo - the folding transom does not close off the cockpit - again, more critical when sailing with a 5 yo - there is very little storage inside We felt these disadvantages would roll over to the B35 unchanged. The J dealer kept telling us they would get one in soon but kept delaying month to month until we gave up on it. On top of that we got the Hanse at the price we wanted to pay (after lots of back and forth, even to the point where we told the dealer we were dropping it). There is a huge price discrepancy for these boats in the US compared to their Euro price, even taking shipping and commissioning into account. We always liked the Hanse best but price was our main concern. In the end we came to an agreement, probably partly due to a good special Hanse was running on free options. The J349 eventually did come in at the dealer and she looks like a nice boat but I like the Hanse better. |

Alright, she is here and being commissioned! We'll probably take possession this coming weekend, very exciting!
And I already have a question for the forum :) Where do people store the hatch that slides up and out to open the boat? The dealer says it can go under the forward berth cushions but that's not very elegant. He's also discussing with the yard to see if we can find a better place. Where do others put it?

I store it on top of the sliding hatch. |

Me too, I use a thin fleece towel underneath to reduce scratches on the sliding roof or the vertical part.

On top of the hatch is definitely the way to go. Very easy to pop it on there and forget. As Fendant says avoid it scratching by placing some thin material between. We use a piece of that rubbery roll that stops cups etc moving in the cupboards.

Awesome, thanks, we will check out how to fit it on top of the sliding hatch with protection in-between.
The dealer said another option is to mount some blocks somewhere that could hold it in place inside. But I think putting it on top of the sliding hatch is easier and probably quicker to retrieve if needed. We ordered her with fixed prop and have folding prop upgrade in mind for later... Can't wait for Saturday :)
