Preparing to handover of my new 388 in May. I have got proposal of my dealer for commissioning  in Greifswald including "rigging, installing of sails, connecting of lights and antennas at mast and start up engine". I would like to know who will make all these works - dealer or shipyard itself ?

Hi Saha,

most likely these tasks will be done by the yard. I assume that you are going to take over the boat in the water to explore the Baltic Sea.

If you would like to have a extensive check list for the handover, just PM me with your e-mail adress.

Hi Saha,

Do you have a date for your handover at Greifswald?  I will be there for the first week of May getting Ningaloo back in the water.  If you are about then I will happy to help with familiarisation.

Inspiration Marine (the UK dealer) generally send someone out from the UK to oversee the commissioning but they do not actually do anything themselves.  They just act as intermediary between the yard and the new owner.  The only real benefit in having someone do this for you is that they know who to talk to for the various trades.  If you are stuck talk to Sebastian at W&R.  I understand that he is responsible for the "small" sailing boat commissioning and is always helpful and friendly and unlike some of the tradesmen, speaks excellent English.

You will need to take a trial sail when the engine will be tested at various speeds for the Volvo warranty.  We spent most of the afternoon testing everything we could think of.  You need to go out through the lifting bridge which opens on the hour but check at the maria office for exceptions.

We had very minor issues during commissioning:
* steering cables needed adjustment
* one of the reefing lines was too short
* mastic residue around the ports adjacent to the companionway
* issues with the GoFree WiFi connection

All these were resolved on the spot.

I am interested in your plans.  Will you be taking your new boat back to Spain?  I intend heading that way myself, but my pace is very slow.  I have spent 3 years exploring the Baltic so far!

hi Stuart ,
It would be great to meet you in Greifwald, but at first delivery date was February-March, then April and now it is second half of May. Hope that it is final date. Some of my plans are broken already. :(
Thank you for your advices about commissioning. This is my first own boat so i'm a bit afraid. :) Will see how handover procedure will be organized by my spanish dealer. I have received the offer from it for essential sum for this procedure. And of course i will try to check everything myself.
Our plans are to go to Spain around the Europe. But we are only two persons on board and i'm not very experienced sailor yet. So we will go with help of skipper from delivery company Halcyon Yachts. Hope to come at home in 3-4 weeks in depends of the weather.
