Hello,

First 1500 nm done with new boat and generally I am very pleased with it.

After commissioniong there were few issues and month of May was more or less ruined because boat was unserviceable. These are not worth sharing since they were really not related to the boat but actual commisioning. I do hope lessons have been learned - on my side I am ok because the contract was written in such way that I was given a fair compensation for the trouble.

During June further issues were detected such as a small fuel leak and water leaking from the anchor locker due to a small hole.

But since these were fixed things have been very smooth. During the 5 week and 1000 nm summer holiday trip not a single problem occured.

Sailing qualities are very good, especially performance with light winds is a nice surprice. I had budgeted a 110% genoa for next season but there is no need for it. I am yet to take the boat into very windy conditions (>14 m/s) but I trust she will perform well. Also D1-20 with 2-blade Flex-O-Fold is strong enough and boat runs 6,3 knts with 2200-2300 revs.

One thing with Hanse is that it will take few years to do all needed modifications. 355 is little bit like American car - very big but a lot of room has been wasted. But not permanently, I will plan carefully what sort of mods and changes in the future will be done and how space will be utilized more efficiently.

Here are some, in my case essential modifications I have prioritised:

Bowsprit (Bow anchor seldom needed in my area):

Cockpit locker - Heater ducts, fuel line, power cable protected and fresh air inlet next to the port winch. This could have been done by Hanse already?

My solution for the gennaker tack line in cockpit, works very well...

Air inlet for the heater + cleat for the ST-jib reef line:

I will post further ideas & solutions in the future...

- Perttu

Perttu,

Your boat is looking very nice.

Why do think you need a fresh air inlet for the heater ?
It's my second yacht and my third heater and I never need such a fresh air inlet.
There is enough "natural" air leaks through the locker for the heater.

I also made some improvements on my H355 for jib line and tack line. but there are both on starboard side with a double clutch.
I will post photos as soon as I can.

I had several years Hanse 312 with no fresh air inlet. Sometimes I felt that some fumes or other unpleasant stuff was coming with the heated air. Solution was to keep the locker door slightly opened. You could tell the difference when the door was open...

So with the new boat I wanted to fix this. Also now I can store chemicals etc in the locker without worrying. Eberspächer also recommends that fresh air inlet should be directly into to the open. I think it should be like this by the yard as standard...

Another improvement I forgot to mention was to install Rutgerson Battcars. Now I can hoist the main in few seconds! This is very inexpensive and easy thing to do and makes life much easier...

Perttu,
Do you have Z-spar or Selden mast.
I think your solution is suitable only for Z-spars because Selden "C" masts suits both standard cars and Selden's MDS cars.
My yacht was delivered with Selden mats and 5 MDS cars (one for each batten and one for head). The others 11 cars are standard. I plan to swap these for MDS intermediate cars.

This is my solution for gennaker tackline and jib reefing line.
To instal Spinlock cluth I had to cut a part of white wooden ceiling in aft cabin.

These photos show a access hatch in the shower bunk (2 cabins version).
Better access to wires, pipes, ... + some storage space for cleaning devices

Where did you get the shopwer bunk hatch from? I like that idea. I'm thinking of pitting one into the outside/back wall of the shower for access to the blackwater tank.  Also like the line tidy in the cockpit locker.

Peter,
The hatch was bought at Mailspeed Marine along with curtains and skyshdes.
It is very easy to fit.

For an another hatch in the waste water tank cover. I think I won't go this way.
The tank bottom lays on on strong piece of plywood. The walls of the tank are very close from the coverpanel and I think there's not enough room beneath to fit an inspection hatch.
On the other hand you can enlarge a bit the original inspection hatch at the top of the tank.
Anyway we'd better pray that we won't have problem with the tank. The only way to really solve issue with this is to remove the whole cover panel wich is only glued in.

(sorry for my poor english language)

Hello,

Some more improvements on my 355. Now after three years I can say that package is complete and I am fairly satisfied with the boat.

Harken blogs replacing Lewmar ones when they fail (2 sofar). Much more expensive but hopfully worth the price.

Leg support in cockpit.

Improved routing for the reef lines, much less friction now.

New jib from Doyle, huge improvement over the original. Boat is faster and carries the sails much better.

AIS tranceiver, now we see others and they see us. Very easy installation when everything is SIMNET / NMEA 2000.

Hi Marcel,

They were not expensive at all, you can http://www.rutgerson.se/default.asp?id=1" rel="nofollow - find suitable ones for Selden, Sparcraft and Z-Spars.

I have a new mainsail coming for this summer and they did not add price more than maybe 50€. Worth every penny :)...

Sorry for the late reply, haven't been here in a while. But Digital Yacht AIT 2000 - works flawlessly and easy installation.

Here too some more improvements for this season:

New mainsail (Hyde Sails, Contenter CDX cruising laminate), true game changer comparing to the original North Sails one. If I only had bought that earlier, worth every penny Ermm...

Improved jib handling - dyneema sheet and Harken/Looper hardware - works perfectly nowl!

Hello Navegador,

Thanks for the info.

I have to say the Hanses heater implementation on my boat was not too impressive. Initially all cables, fuel line, air hoses, everything totally exposed for damage. And the exhaust system too. I have fixed most issues myself but there is a possibility that hot parts will touch fenders or something else when in the locker and that is not acceptable.

This fix offered to you looks very professional, I will inquire from the local dealers if the yard would send the 'fix' to me as well. Heater is used very much in my region...

Hello,

Some improvements for this season:

Navigation electronics upgrade, FC40 upgraded to RC42 and new B&G Vulcan chartplotter with nice sailing features. Compass is also moved from aft to bow for less disturbances.

Improved ventilation for the lavatory:

Did a first trip of the season this weekend and boat is in immaculate shape overall!

I was assured that it works fine in the rain. I did compare between Vulcan and Zeus 2 but since there is no plan for radar Vulcan was the choice.

Yesterday it was damp and it worked ok even gloves on...

I would like to know how this works when very wet as I have problems with touch screen devices with wet hands. They are ok when damp but when wet, as you could get in heavy rain it may not work. I am also surprised you say you can use this with gloves on, were these special gloves?

I will share my experience when rain is encountered.

Gloves were like this  http://www.biltema.fi/fi/Veneily/Muut/Veneilykasineet-2000020895/" rel="nofollow - http://www.biltema.fi/fi/Veneily/Muut/Veneilykasineet-2000020895/ , neoprene and some other materials. Can not say it was exactly Apple feel but worked ok :)...

That would be great to know if rain on the screen still lets the device work as normal.

The gloves being neoprene appear to be similar to the contact surface of the pens used on android smart phones and tablets that are waterproof and would work fine in this environment. You mention apple feel, which I believe suggests you are making a reference to apple products? However, I don't know of any apple products that are waterproof, so use in marine, or just damp environments would most likely destroy these.

B&G Vulcan performs very well in the rain. We had good conditions for the tests yesterday, 4 hours of moderate to heavy rain during our journey. No problems at all. This device seems like excellent value for money...

Hi Perttu,

with interest I have seen your retrofittings of your Hanse 355.
I also would like to retrofit a legsupport/footrest in the middle of my cockpit and therefore I have the following questions:

Could you please explain how your legsupport has been fixed / connected with the cockpit floor?
What is the heigth of your legsupport?

Many thanks and kind regards,
