I AM CONFUSED WHICH COMPANY TO USE CONCERNING THE ELECTRONICS PACKAGE.

RAYMARINE IS EASIER TO USE AS I HEAR FROM OTHER OWNERS BUT SIMRAD IS ONE STEP BETTER.

CAN YOU HELP ME MAKE A DECITSON WHICH YOU THINK IS BETTER AND WHY.

After my experience I wouldn't mix. Either all Raymarine or all Simrad. If you decide for Raymarine who definitely have the better (world wide) after sales service you may have to pay more for the installation. And have it done by a certified company because if something fails you have a warranty. I decided for Simrad and we had a problem with a big offset of the steering compass (mini gyro). In the end the company had to come down from Germany to Croatia to fix it (!) as we didn't find the compass. But the next year's model come with a new system (Glass Bridge 40) and new instruments (IS20-Serie), nobody knows how well they will work. The GB 40 is a sophisticated black box system with touchscreens and less buttons.

Andreas...
This topic is a fairly popular one and has been covered in a few other threads now. I don't recall anyone having big problems with Raymarine. The older Simrad models had some issues (IS15) but the newer series seem to be better.  For all the gory details, suggest you do some searches...

Uhambo is equipped with the whole Simrad package. Here attached a picture of our Radar pole. That's a good way to keep the radar antenna as low as possible and that works well.

Hi,

I had Raymarine ST60 in my first boat. They are easy to use and never had to service them, decides recalibrating the compass every year. But they were not accurate. The wind direction had at best 10 degrees deviation and the compass up to 15 degrees. The agent at least in Greece has spare parts and service to fix them, but he is worthless in adjusting them. I repositioned the compass twice and I changed the arm of the wind sensor to a long one with marginal improvement. I decided to install Simrad in my new boat in hope that the acquisition of B&G (which makes very accurate instruments) and their experience is in their new IS20 instrument system. I have not tested them yet, since my Hanse will be delivered in June.
