Italian register and rules are a bit of a nightmare (like you need to have on board only government approved safety kit which is more expensive and less effective than other usually available in Europe).

So it is nothing to do with the British ensign. What you are really trying to do is dodge the rules of your own country. That is the real issue - isn't it?

Haha Samuel!
I am Canadian and EU passported. Currently living in Italy. I lived in the UK for the last 10 years and it was easier to get the red duster, without dodging any rule.
Now that the UK is leaving the EU that choice might not be the right one. And so I am trying to advise from who have a better idea.

Well Canada is a  country to be proud of, so i might be inclined to fly a Canadian flag if i were from there. However, If one is "EU passported" surely that would be related to a specific country, would it not? Or is it a passport that covers the whole of the EU. In which case you may as well have the Irish flag because they probably have the nearest regs to existing UK's. Alternatively Belgian as they will be the last to go as the EU breaks up over the next few years.

Hi Rich,

Which registration do you have in the UK? The SSR is only allowed if you spend 6 months or more per year in the UK, so you should give that one up if you have one. Although I know a lot of Brits who still use it although not being in the UK for anything like that period, it might help your decision going forward.
