Hello All,

Did anyone modify the reefing system on the standard Hanse Z-Spar? On mine, someone has to always keep pulling the reef through the boom because of the angle of the fixed Shackle on the mast. I tried to put a block there and it improved the situation but didn't make it better. I put a block on the mast and it improved further but still it gets blocked in addition to it not being a good solution as many people do not recommend a block on the sail.

Any recommendations or ideas?

Thanks,
Sam

It seems you may have the reef line wrongly rigged
The reef line comes out of the top of the boom & then up to a block on the luff of the sail. You definately need the block on the sail luff, A ballraced one is best to reduce friction
It then comes down the mast & through the fairlead riveted to the mast approximately level with the gooseneck.
It then goes down to the turning block at the base of the mast
You do not take the line out of the top of the boom & through the fairlead before going up the sail.

Have I understood your setup correctly?
