Just been looking at brand new 418, I note there is now a hull anode and the Jefa rudder has earth bonding wire. Some time back Hanse sent a note to its agents to have previous boats recalled to have earth wire removed.
Any idea why the turnaround from Hanse as they effectively have returned to set up of bonding dropped through the 415 era? |

On the 505 there was a wire that went back to the boat ground. I believe that the idea was this was to be removed and that there was to be a separate wire to a dedicated anode on the port hull. Not positive, but I think this is correct. In any event, that is how my boat was set up. The "extra" ground wire is there but not used.

I find it odd that hanse decide bonding was bad idea and asked owners to disconnect and then they go from a generation of boats non bonded back to bonding again and all the time the manufacturer of the rudder (Jefa) recommend no bonding.
Some consistency and clarity for owners would be nice.

Sounds like the didn't go back to the old setup at all. Sounds like they've added an anode just for the rudder post and the rudder ground system is separate from the rest of the boat. No?

Hi Steve, you maybe right and this would be logical however the employee of the commissioning agent told me their was a bonding wire on a keel bolt as well which would suggest more is bonded, so would be great to hear from a 418 owner to understand what the current configuration is.

My 415 (2012) had a wire (green and yellow) from the keel to the boat earth (AC and DC) and the rudder post was isolated (i.e. no wires to anything).

Hi Jon,
Appreciate rudder is bonded but what else is? do you have bonding on keel and elsewhere? does it include AC and BC at buzz bars as well?

Hi, The keel on 418 also has similar earthing wire on rear bolt to that on rudder post. We are not on board so unfortunately can't comment on buzz bars etc. Jon
