It is almost winter. When looking true my photo's I realised that I have to wait approx. 5 months to see her sail again. Karma is on the hard right now.

Sailing side to side with a Dehler 36 (also a Judel and Vrolijk design).

How did the performance between the 2 compare?

Andrew, both sailing with a self tacker jib:

Upwind performance seems the same and both pointing extremly high (<30 degree or less app.). Mind you: The Dehler with a draft of 2 mtr and the Hanse with a shoal draft of 1.7 mtr. This has surprised me and the Dehler positive!

With low winds (less than 8 knots) I must admit that the Dehler is bit faster or quicker I must say.

But down wind there is no difference. And if there is the Hanse will outperform the Dehler.

The pointing abbility will be less for the Hanse when on the North sea I believe. Due to the shoal draft. But I want to believe that this is not true. Have to try it next year Wink

All in all the Dehler is a bit quicker but also she has less weight to carry and a bigger mainsail. So I am verry happy and I do believe that Karma is rather quick compared to others than a Dehler or an X or J Boat.

I find it interesting that if you are interested in club racing, Hanse now points to the Dehler brand as the way to go.

Comparing the Dehler 36 (which is a great boat!) with my Hanse 370 the boats are more or less the same speed. The Dehler is much lighter but also with less sail area.

Hanse bought the Dehler brand, which has a racing pedigree. Since they're selling both brands it makes sense to promote Dehler for Club racing.
After 10 years with my lovely fast judel/vrolijk designed Hanse 312, I moved up to the  Dehler 38 (Hanse built) by the same designers, because I wanted the same speedy performance, though I don't actually race (except when there's another boat going the same way) .

Yes, I know.
The point I was trying to make (and failed due to brevity :) ) was that now Hanse is focusing on Dehler for performance and Hanse for comfortable cruising.
