Hello,

Any recommendations for a solution which would enable me just plug-in VHF-radio into Simnet at nav station to get the required data for the DSC functionality.

Simrad does offer Simnet capable radios but they are very expensive.

I think you could use any radio that reads NMEA2000. SimNet is NMEA2000 so it is just a matter of getting the right connectors. I made my own adapter cables and described the procedure in this thread.

Hi Perttu
I bought a Simrad VHF and connected to the Simnet and it does pick the GPS position for the DSC. I don't think it is expensive, I got the RS25 for U$S 269
I hope this can help.

Thx guys, so basically I only need a cable to connect NMEA 2000 compatible VHF to Simnet and DSC will work ok.

Such as this http://www.blueheronmarine.com/Simrad-NMEA-2000-to-Simnet-Adapter-6417

Yes, provided the radio has a standard NMEA2000 connector. I mean, just like Simrad other brands might have their own connector but they might still be NMEA2000.

DSC mainly needs position and I think that's a fairly straightforward message on the network so I guess you will not run into any compatibility problems.

If your radio (as mine) reads NMEA0183 then communication should play with simrads AT10 converter:

Hi,

I have an Simrad AIS unit installed.
According to its advertisment I should be able to make a DSC call to any vessel shown on the AIS screen by selecting it and just pressing the button "DSC".
I am not able to setup the DSC radio to perform this action.

http://www.simrad-yachting.com/en/Products/Leisure/Navigation-Fishfinding/AI50-Automatic-Identification-System/

The photo implies that the DSC VHF and the AIS work together !!!

I have an ICOM 504 radio and have never got it to work with the Simrad system. The problem is with the radio, not the instrument system. So my advice is to not use ICOM....

Do you have the Simrad AI50 installed?

That should work with a RS-series radio, but I'm not familiar with the configuration or cabling for it.

Yes I have the simrad AI50.

And you are absolutely right : it should work, but it doesn't.
