Thank you very much Stuart!  On the 345 I have a small starboard cockpit locker with no hatch aft.
But I have the electro winches accessible from the starboard aft cabin and I hope that I can see the back of the IS 40 from there.

I have 3 questions:
a) How easy was it to remove the rev counter to connect the gateway?
b) is there a "freeway" to get the NMEA -> Simnet cable to the IS 40?
c) Did the Simnet find the gateway automatically or did you follow a process for connecting the gateway?

Seasons Greetings

I've just ordered the YDEG-4 (engine monitor adapter) direct from the US for 147 including airmail. This saves over 30 compared to the local UK agent but will probably take a few days longer to arrive. Let's also hope I don't have any warranty issues. Wink

I'll report about installing on a 415 in due course.

I ordered mine direct from the Yacht Devices website (in US$). I think they are based in Kaliningrad, the Russian port between Poland and Lithuania. I got good support from them before my purchase.

The area I am talking about is at the extreme aft of the boat. On my 385 I have a large locker to starboard in place of the optional 3rd cabin. At the aft of this locker there is an access panel that opens into a void and this gave me access to all that I needed.

You do not need to remove the rev counter. The Volvo wiring loom seems to be extended in several places using the square connectors supplied with the YDEG. It is a simple matter of disconnecting one of these and adding the YDEG into the loom.   I found that there was one of these conveniently situated near the nmea connector.

Not sure what you mean by "freeway". Although I couldn't find a way of reaching the Triton display head, I was able to reach the 7-way Simnet connector adjacent to it. Google this if you are not sure what it looks like. It is a black bar with yellow Simnet sockets which (in my case) had cables from the backbone, Triton display and Triton autopilot control leaving 4 free sockets. I bought a short Simnet to Micro-C cable to add the YDEG.

The beauty of Nmea2k is that once a device is added to the network, it is visible throughout the network so no setup or configuration is required to actually get additional engine data onto your MFD.

It probably took me longer to empty the cockpit locker (dinghy, bicycles, fenders etc) to gain access to the void than actually fitting the device. You will need an SD card to initially configure the YDEG if you want to alter the default settings or upgrade the firmware.

The device actually gives quite limited information unless you upgrade with additional (expensive) Volvo kit.

From memory, you get revs, temperature and alternator amps.

I was hoping for fuel usage of some sort but no luck.
