Hi,

I am starting to research the plotter marked for upgrading from a 2012 NSS system. I see that Simrad has launched a new nss3 which looks promising. Another alternativ would be to go the B&G route which is branded more for sailing boats. I do not do any club sailing but do do long distanse blue water.

Any advice on Simrad vs B&G? (quality/reliability, compatability to radar, autopilot, existing backbone, etc)

- or any other brand

Cheers

Hi, Simrad is owned by Navico who also own B&G. Certainly looking at the Navico website https://navico.com/our-brands/ they are producing the same instruments with differing brand names
All the best

Seileren1,

B&G and Simrad hardware equipment is the same, the only difference is the logo. According to their websites Simrad is aimed at motor boat users and B&G is aimed at sailing users. The software is slightly different. The B&G software offers some sailing orientated options.

Exactly - the B&G software is much more appropriate for sail boats. Highly recommend going with the the Zeus3....  Totally compatible with your Simrad or B&G instruments. These newer chart plotters will even control your autopilot computer (look at the compatibility list).
