we are returning to ubulukutu on Tuesday to prepare for our spring cruise.  Starting in Marmaris we will be sailing to Yalikavak via Simi to arrive by the middle of May.  We collect two friends from Australia and then set off in the direction of Santorini or IOS via intervening islands or those with boats we know and want to meet, returning to Yalikavak by the 20th June.

We will as usual be flying the MyHanse burgee and have malt on board.  Anyone in the area is welcome to a dram (we will have gin too if that's the preference).

Safe sailing everyone

Excellent picture

I like Turkey and Greece and I have sailed many times along the French Med coast in friends boats. I am considering taking my boat the long way around from UK via Gibraltar to the Med and was thinking eastern end.

What are the marinas like in Turkey and Greece and how do the costs compare to UK and other areas in the Med?

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Marinas in Turkey are very good, certainly as good as Hamble point where we picked up ubulukutu.  Costs vary a lot, we paid 1500 euro for our 6 months in Marmaris, but the quotes on the Bodrum    peninsula where much higher, I recon Yalikavak is like the south coast costs now, but you do get a fantastic marina.  So there are still some very good deals out there, and some very expensive places too.  In the Greek islands so far we have usually anchored in bays for free.  We have used Kos marina which is middle of the cost bands for a few days.

Hi Mark, Catherine & Rob

Last year our experience was that apart from Kos, Rhodes new marina & Olympic marina in Lavrion, Greek marinas in the Eastern aegean were not very good. In fact there are not many & mostly we used town quays or anchored in bays. The new Rhodes Marina is by far the best or will be when everything is finished. They waited until we had left to open the toilets, showers & laundry! Sorry we will not be able to meet up Mark as we are going to be in the Ionian most of the summer. Hope to overwinter probably on Aegina Island near Athens for more Aegean cruising next year. Have a lovely summer & we will keep in touch. Getting very excited about sailing the new 415. We depart for Naples on 7th May but I still have the Grab Handles to mount!

Ionian are superb

People are friendly, lots of places to moor
Did not pay anything in small harbours

Attention: looooots of charter boats arriving all together +/_ 1530
After their arrivals, very few places left

I was there in june 2014, wonderfull souvenirs

Have a good time

Not only those who wander are lost

I've learn that the best way to learn about people is to sail with them

Nigel,

We leave Sicily at the end of April bound for Montenegro, Croatia and then up to Venice. Then around the end of July we will head down to the Ionian for the rest of the season then back to Sicily via Malta. We may see you in the Ionian.

Hi Wayne, are you planning to stay in Venice for the Redentore Festival (the 16th of July)?

Great feedback guys.

Mark and Catherine, I'm not sure I would compare anything to Hamble Point Marina as it is certainly at the lower end of the scale of good marinas on the south coast, its just its prime location makes it useful.

Looks like Ionian is a good option, as long as you get to a mooring before the charter boats.

I like Malta but I hear the mooring there is difficult as there are very few available?

Cheers,

Rob

Great news at last. What was the source of your electrical problems & what was needed to resolve them?
