I've discovered that the bottom fork terminals of the middle turnbuckle were missing the splint that prevents the turnbuckle to rotate. The reason for the missing splint is that there is no hole in the fork terminal to insert the splint. Just wondering if this is common on all 320's or a mistake only made on my boat? Initial thought is that there should be a splint in order to prevent the turnbuckle to rotate during sailing. Any comments?

All my splints are in place; who installed the rig on yours?

Did you try to turn the turnbuckle about 90°?
May be the hole is hidden by the turnbuckle.
Just a thought....

Since it's a new boat and delivered ex Greifswald, I would believe that the yard has installed the rig.

The first thing I did was to turn the turnbuckles to insert the splint. Surprised to discover that the hole is missing altogether.

It's probably Wendel & Rados who rigged your boat, then. They should have enough experience on these boats to avoid mistakes like this...

But, then again, I had a lot of poor things on the masthead mounted by W&R. I would look for an oportunity to demount the mast this summer, and make sure that everyting is still in place - and installed correctly. In example: That all brackets. I had a lot of corrosion on these parts...

I never use splints anymore, just a strong piece of rope will do the trick.....
I always adjust (tighten) the rig after a week of 2, fast job when using rope.

Still strange that there a re no holes in the buckles?

When you tighten up the rig after a few weeks, what kinds of measurement do you use for this job? I'm thinking of buying one of these - any use at all? And is the "PT-2" the correct size for a 320?

Shaukaas, the initial setting is the last years end of season measurement between the treaded ends of the buckles +2mm after 2wk I tighten them another 2mm whilst observing the behaviour going upwind, gives the boat time to settle a little.
I do not use other measering devices.

I have used the loose tension gauges for several years and it should do the trick. It is very easy to use. I'm also thinking of buying the "PT-2" model as my old "gauge B" model is too small for the cable size on the Hanse 320.

What kind of tensions are we looking for on a 320?
