Thanks everyone for the assistance. I discovered today that the water tank was over-filling, so now the most likely explanation is wet wiring and short circuiting. I pulled the sensor out again and tried it in multiple water levels and it still reads full.
On the side it says: Calira
I didn't want to do it but had to call the electrician - I've tried everything I can.

On the bright side I've discovered all manner of new storage spaces I didn't know existed.
Smile
cheers

My post above refers to the Calira sensor which I also have. It seems really well sealed. It will be interesting to hear what your electrician says. I wonder whether it may be short circuiting between sensor rods due to water droplets or condensation staying on the surface of the plastic where the rods enter. I found the same problem in two new sensors.

I think the nagging question for us all is which sensor ( Wema, Philippi, ...... ) would be drop in interchangeable with the Calira sensor which apparently gives a lot of headache if you browse thorugh the camper and mobilhome forums.
Any experiences ??

The great news is the water sensor is working again. Smile
I got a marine electrician to take a look and he had no luck, but suggested I order a replacement display unit from phillipi.
I was in the process of ordering one, when a helpful chap at phillipi asked me to double check the tank type value I had input. It had to be set to 40 to match the prong style sensor I had.
Now it's working perfectly. Especially after I cleaned the gunk of the stainless steel prongs!
Moral of the story - don't let the kids poke around with the settings on your gauges.
And learn German, so you can understand the obscure manuals.Confused
Thanks everyone for your collective wisdom.
cheers

If somebody needs to replace his calira sensor, I could sell mine which I replaced a couple of years ago...

I changed not just the sensor but the whole unit for phillipi digital gauges. A lot of work but in the end nice.
