I am writing this post in hopes it will be useful for others.

After twelve years of extended use the fan in my Webasto heater started to act funny. When going from high mode to low mode the fan would change rapidly from going very fast to very slow and almost to a halt. After a while the heater would turn itself off and deliver the error code of eight flashes.

I am not surprised that the fan would eventually pack in. For the last four years when I have been living permanently aboard the heater has been running every morning and every night between Octobre and April. Sometimes it has been turned on three times a day.

The combustion air fan must be the most expensive part of the heater as I paid around 500 Euro for it.

As can bee seen in the picture, there is a small hole in the foil. I noticed this hole on my old fan but as it was slightly bigger and a bit torn at the edges I thought the hole was there because I had been careless when opening the heater to replace the burner. I have been blaming myself for being careless for years but now realise that the hole was there at the first place and it has been getting bigger from the heat over time. I have now forgiven myself for a sin I never committed!

While I had the heater dissassembled I took the opportunity to check for any build-up in the burner. You can see in the picture that there is some around the edges. I carefully removed it and hope that the burner won't need to be replaced in a long time. It has been in use for two and a half years now. At the moment it works perfectly.

On an average I have replaced burners in my heater every three years.
