I visited today a brand new Hanse 345 with the factory supplied Bimini top and I was shocked
as it makes the whole cockpit and steering environment totally useless.
The Bimini as rigged forces you to sit only straight behind the wheel(s) and prevents you to take a comfortable position on the decksides. It is also dangerous as you bang your head against the Bimini hardware. If you want to look ahead you have to stick your head though the Bimini rods !
Is this normal? My only hope is that the delivery yard has wrongfully assembled the Bimini.
Does anybody have a Hanse 345 ( about 10 - 20 have been delivered as per today ) with a Bimini?

Equipment like sprayhood, lazybag or bimini I would not order at the wharf - it ist much cheaper and better, to order a custom made one from a local sailmaker.

Hi,
This problem is not restricted to 345, I sailed on a 415 and the binimi got in the way as well. Apparently with the performance sails the boom is lower and if you are not short you wont fit under a binimi that lives under the boom.
If you look on the windcraft website (Australian dealer) they use very short binimis that dont go as far forward as the boom, so they only cover the helm.
We decided not to bother on our 385 and order a cover that stretches from the back of the spray hood to the backstays when we are moored for sun shade, as i dont like sailing with a binimi up anyway.
But baybreeze (pictures on HANSE UK facebook page) has fitted telescopic supports for their binimi, so that you can raise it and lower it a little bit. They can raise it out of the way when stowed against the backstay and when morred when the boom is high, and lower it if they want to sail with it up, probably the best compromise i have seen.

Dear all,
I think the time has arrived to post pictures of the beautiful Hanse 345 so here you are my and wife's new baby : Pauline.
Actually I was a bit worried when I first read this post after placing my order, as apparently it was impossible to get either a drawing or a picture of the bimini from the yard, but I blind trusted Hanse and moved on.
Eventually we got the boat, you see something vital is missing in the picture but have faith , more will follow; the bimini is not suitable for keeping it up when sailing IMHO but I, too, prefer to use it only when moored and in this respect it works beautifully.
As this is my first post, let me thank you all for both the amount of precious advice I could find here,
and also for sharing pleasant moments.
Cheers,
Maurizio

Benvenuto Maurizio,
I have ordered it now from a local sailmaker shop here in Switzerland. Will post when the boar will be commissioned in 3 weeks from now. The yard has recognised the flaws in the bimini design.
Which is your hull No. ? Did you get the new electric panel at the nav station?
Experiences so far, snags ?
Cordiali saluti della Svizzera

Ciao Frank,
piacere di conoscerti. I've quickly edited my signature so to enter basic info about my H345 # 51. The mast was commissioned just a few days ago, therefore sofar I could only motor-test the boat, the first real trip will take place this week-end which is forecasted almost windless . Anyway, as far as I could see till now, she's a beautiful and very well-built boat, very good value for money which will give us plenty of satisfaction. Unfortunately I've got the original nav panel which is indeed clumsy to be removed. Not a big issue anyway. When you get yours, if you can post pictures of the new arrangement I will try to copy it. I pointed this out when visiting the yard the day before my boat had to be loaded to the truck for delivery. Not everything was perfect during my visit, I spotted a few minor glitches that have been fixed promptly after my remarks; one concerned a needed, but apparently forgotten, small gel-coat patch below waterline that was properly applied as far as I could see, but for which I'm still waiting for a specific warranty statement that I asked for. I'll write something more after the first serious tests. Greetings, Maurizio |

Ciao Maurizio,
I have opened a new thread where we can post and share our experiences with our new beauties. Hope your mast will arrive in time and that everything fits.
Where is your home port in Italy ?

Lago di Constantia, on the other side of the alps.
Actually it was in Genoa, where the decision for Hanse was made final.

Hi all;
as you know from my previous post in this thread I have the standard bimini. The major drawback I found is that you cannot sit comfortably on the rear side seats because of the poor vertical bars rigging, which also is annoying when mooring. So I moved them from the sides to the rear, and now the setup is much better with little effort, see the difference with the picture in my original post. You can also see that I have a mast and sails now ... It remains to add extra protection for the helmsman when standing behind the wheel .. Bye, Maurizio |
