Since a few days I am experiencing worrying behaviour from the windlass.
When it start it makes the first turns slowly and then speed up to normal speed.
This in both directions.
I am afraid it is about to break.

My model is a Quick DP3 1512 with a 1500 watt 12 volt motor.
This is a very small unit for a 57 boat.
Quick recommend it for 40 to 50 boats.
We should have a 2000 watt unit but this are only available with 24 volt motors.
(why our 575s have a 12 volt system?)

Any one else had problems with windlass?

Marcopone,

We have the same anchor winch and have used it for 5 seasons and anchoring very often and often have out 60 + meters of chain and have had no issues with the anchor winch. Have you checked the wiring near the motor to make sure there is good contact? I would also take the top off the winch and check there is not a build up of salt and mud etc between the gypsy and the break surface.

Wayne,

unfortunately I already did these checks with no results.
The cables were all tight.
I dismantled the gypsy and tested the windlass with just the shaft and the same strange problem apply.
I think salt water went into the gearbox.
