Summer is here shortly! Thumbs%20Up

It's time to think new sails, and I know a lot of you 320/350 sailors out there have newer, bigger and better head sails for your boats - and I'm keen to get your experiences and recommendations...

Last summer I got a Elvstrøm Gennaker, which performs very good! It's now time to take the next step up. I'm therefore considering orderring a 105% Furling jib to be able to keep up with my competitors in light-medium winds.

I have read a lot of posts on the Norwegian forums regarding using a laminate, double laminate or Dacron - I prefer to get a laminated sail because of the performance factor. And, of course, also because of the looks! Cool

Is a 105% LP the biggest head sail there is room for on a 320? I'm thinking about the side stays, and the conflict there. And I'm curious to know what kind of "extra features" would you people recommend?

I've got a few offers on the table; all of different cloth and various spec's. To be honest; I'm deeply confused about all these brand names and "codes"... What should I look for - what are the main differences?

Not too much response on this.... LOL

Does anyone know what kind of Genoa Cars that may fit to the rails installed by Hanse? My local dealer did not seem to know...

Would for an example these from Lewmar fit?

Hello shaukaas,

The ones you are showing didn't fit mine 320.
The housing for the "torlon-balls" hitted the windows.
Therefore I bought the versions; 29441700/20/30 (left & right)
(sorry; don't know how to upload a picture)
Probably those will fit yours as well.

Hello Shaukaas,

For mine 320 I've ordered a new headsail from Gaastra.
Nothing exotic, just a simple Pentex sail.
The sail has been measured and will be 24,73 m² this is 103%
The sail couldn't been bigger because of the shrouds.

The "old" (2 seasons) North-sails selftacking jib will be transferred to a smaller headsail which can be used for windforce 6 and more (I agree this is not the best material for a sail like this but it won't be used often) This will be done by Quantum, as they will also make a new selftacking jib (again the material used will be pentex)

Please note that I found that a lot of different (exotic) material names, are just used by the different sailmakers, in fact the fibres used are most of the times the same.

I have an old offer from North Sails with following data:
Luft: 12,15
LP%: 108%
LPG: 4,18
Area: 25,39
I haven't order it yet, so no clue how it fits.

It seems like the different sail makers are using different sizes/measures for the LP. I've got three different offers: Three different sizes from three different sail makers...

My local sailmaker, dealership for Elvström sails, will take the exact measures - and so far this seems like the best solution, as it does not seem like all H320's are exactly the same? Also I've got the possibility to adjust the sails after production, if needed...

Pentex - is that some kind of laminate? A molded sail? How does these perform, and how easy is it to keep them in a good shape?

Anyone got some pictures of their new foresails?

Thank you very much - any help here is appreciated!

The one you're showing are the ones I've installed.
Indeed these are fitted with a "plunger stop".
At first I wanted to buy the version with the double sheaves but didn't know how to lead the lines to the cockpit.
Looking at it now I regret the plunger stop version, because of the (big) distance between the holes on the rail. This makes trimming the headsail more difficult.
(if you choose for the cars with sheaves don't forget to order the belonging "end-stops" for the rail)

That's good information!

I have been looking at the same difficulty; getting the lines to the cockpit. The same problem is for the "tackline" for the Gennaker, but I will fit Spinlock clutches on the "side" of the cockpit, leading the lines to the winches.

I do not know if it will work out leading these "double sheave trim lines" the same way back to the cockpit, it will definitely be different from anything I've seen before. Hopefully there are some expertise on this subject amongst us?

That's what I was also thinking about but daren't do it.
In my opinion there's a lot of tension on the rope. Therefore I only want to fix anything like this, if there's the possibility of mountng a "contra-plate" on the inside. And there you will find the problem, because from the inside it's not possible to reach the outer hull.
