On the occasion of a shipyard visit in May - to prove how well organized and precise the Hanse yard works - we encountered a new lifting/lowering system for the 508 swimming plattform. Instead of an electric/hydraulic piston (s. pic) they install now a (electric) rolling system with a belt. I was told that there were issues with the reliability of the hydraulic control system. I have a few concerns about it: - as the plattform is very close to the waterline the loose connection can bang the plattform up and down in case of waves or swell - in case of an emergency (i.e. MOB) this can be dangerous - if not lowered entirely and not beeing hold by the additional Dynema lines this can produce strong hits on the adjustment of the belt rolling system. There might be more issues than before! - how can the plattform be lowered or lifted in case of an electric failure? - the plattform is losesred or lifted almost every day in the Med, as lots of owners use the lowered plattform not only for swimming but also to get on and off the yacht when moored stern to on piers. So this system must be constructed for heavy use! I wonder if some new owners of 508 yachts made some experiences (good or bad)? (Of course there are no pictures as it isn't allowed to take pictures inside the Hanse shipyard)

I am one of the seemingly unlucky owners of the original system in my new Hanse 508.....
It took several months to commission the platform as the commissioning yard / Hanse Agent, could not get it to work and did not take it serious at all. Now it (seems) to work, but when I heard that the set up that I have is already changed I wonder if it is good enough. Should I have waited some years for the 508 to be better tested, have I paid for a new boat and, without knowing it, to be the one testing things?
