My AIS (Widelink B600) stopped working last season properly by no more sending position datas. It is installed by a the local shipchandler company in Greifswald (Wendel & Rados). I wonder if someone had these problems. It is connected to an antenna splitter I can't disconnect as it is mounted behind a wall at the navtable. My electrician asked me to plug the AIS-antenna cable directly to the VHF but I failed, as this splitterbox is mounted very high behind the navtable walls. Here you can see the diagnostics pics.

I am not familiar with this device but if the position is not being broadcast could it be the gps antenna is not passing s position to the ais device?
An ais transponder must have a dedicated GPS.

I just installed a transponder using the standard b&g splitter and it was all working in a few minutes.

Your diagnostic output above indicates that the unit does not have an adequate external power supply. The unit can work as a receiver just using the NMEA2000 bus supply but to transmit it needs its own dedicated 12V supply. Could that be the problem!

There is a cable connected at the power socket. Maybe it is not properly connected to the 12V power supply of the boat. Hard to find out! The funny thing is that the unit is transmitting a position as soon as we are ashore but not at sea.

A friend had the same problem Tobo2.  He only was transmitting near shore or short distances off shore. He changed the antenna and changed the splitter. Power was OK. Still did not transmit properly. In the end, sent it to B and G, and they replaced the unit as defective. It was a few years old, so there was some payment due. It solved the problem after ruling out all else.

Sounds like it is transmitting signal but it is a weak signal.  So the antenna, splitter or cable is the most likely cause.  At least you know power supply and gps is working OK.   You need to access that splitter …..   If impossible then you could add a new secondary antenna up as high as you can without going up the mast.     BTW are you transmitting OK when using the VHF radio?

The solution was as quick as embarrassing and you won't believe it: The electrician mounted the switch for silent AIS the wrong way around: ON means sending AIS datas, OFF means no datas sending. Not very logical for a silent switch, isn't it! It costed me € 120 for an extra check of the AIS and the antenna switch and man mails and phone calls! The reason actually was a misinterpretation of the manual and the status of the LEDs. Lesson learned: RTFM (Read the f*** manual!)
