Hi

Coming up for my first haul out soon and I need to purchase the Antifouling.

How many liters are needed for the 458?

2 coats plus a third coat on the waterline , keel and rudder .

I was thinking 15 liters but maybe a bit more ?

Thanks

Ed

To get a rouge estimate you could use an online calculator.

I tried yachtpaintcalculator from hempel and it was not enough in my experiance.
The venizianicalculator was more than enough. So the truth is somewhere between those two.

This year I used Hempel Tiger Extra (available in UK) which states it covers 12-13m2/litre.  The boat had Hempel Mille NCT when commissioned.
I found 5l give me good coverage with enough spare to go around the waterline 50-60cm deep again.  I used a small roller to apply.
I also mixed some chilli powder into the paint as recommended by another forum member.
I only use a single coat as I find that although sold as a self eroding paint, it is quite hard and does not rub off as easily as some I have previously used.  I don't want an excessive build-up of paint on the hull.  My boat is in the water 5 months of the year and is sailed most days.
Halfway through the season now and there is light algae growth in patches on the hull.  I scrub those I can reach every couple of weeks or so.
No "hard" fouling from barnacles.  Very happy with the performance.

The paint I will be using covers 10m per liter so based on what you are using 15 liters for me seems about right .

Thanks

I did one coat with 2 gallons of Pettit Vivid mixed with approximately 1 pint of brushing thinner.

Had to completely redo the original shipyard antifouling on my 458, it was so bad in Caribbean waters, lot of growth just after a few weeks. Now, with two coats of Seahawk Islands 44, (two gallons per coat) the bottom is sparkling clean.

Thanks all. I will let you know how it goes when I am done.

I have been in the water for a year now with the original factory antifouling.  Had to clean it twice to keep it perfect.
