Good morning everyone,
Having done a bit over 1000NM in the past month I am starting to get to know the ins and outs of my new to me H505. And I am loving it! I sailed from Malta via Sicily, Lefkada, Korfu, Vis, the Kornati Islands to Izola in Slovenia to have some major work done, including a solar arch with 1.1kW solar and a switch to Victron equipment. I could not be happier with the work done there. There are two things that I can’t get my head around. The first, and most important, is that if I unfurl my main or jib, or make any bigger trim change to a sail, the boat starts heading into the wind and the H5000 autopilot with DD1 drive cannot keep the heading. This always happens, even in light winds. I have looked at every setting but I can’t figure it out. The second thing is that my B&G GoFree WiFi-1 module works perfectly when I connect my iPad to it and it replicates the Zeus2 screens through the Link app. But I can’t use it to connect to the internet. It says ‘No WiFi modules could be detected’. I am on the latest firmware. And although it partly works it does not show up in the Device List on the B&G network. Any words of wisdom from any of you more experienced sailors out there?

I’m not sure what the autopilot problem is, but people have changed the DD1 to DD2. The DD1 is a bit undersized for that boat. On the WiFi, that module will serve as an access point or a client, but not at the same time. It needs to be manually selected one way or the other. The process is in the instructions. You are obviously in access point mode if your LINK app works.

That autopilot failure is interesting.
Does this 'head up' failure occur in both heading mode and wind mode? I'd start by reconfiguring the autopilot, using both the dockside and sea trial functions. These are easily performed. Is your rudder angle indicator reading properly? If the autopilot configuring process doesn't address your issue, I'd suggest giving B&G service a call. Good luck with your 505, and let us know how this is resolved. |

Dear Arcadia, thank you for your reply. I am aware of the difference between AP and Client. In AP mode the unit works fine, even though it is not registered as a device in the B&G network. When I try to switch to client mode (by selecting ‘Connect to internet’) it responds with ‘No WiFi modules could be detected’.
I did read the whole DD2 upgrade thread here on Myhanse. I don’t think that this is my issue as I also have this problem in light winds. Thanks Kipwrite too for your response. Yes, it happens both in Wind and Heading mode. I did go through the dockside and sea trial functions. And the rudder angle indicator is correct too (reading 0 degrees going straight). I am at a loss!

So weird! It seems like it's either not getting up to date sensor data (ie current heading or awa), or like it's getting the data but not reacting to it (maybe quickly enough). So, before getting the sails out, it works perfectly keeping the heading? Even with waves etc? And it's constantly making small corrections to achieve that and reacting quickly to the boat pointing the wrong way? Is the gyro sending out good data as well, re heeling and pitch?

I'd check network-settings and make sure all your devices are showing up, with no --- . Make sure they register as 'Okay'
Only other suggestion is to make sure boat speed is sourced from the airmar device, not the h5000. My autopilot behaves oddly when boat speed is sourced from the h5000, or, my speed wheel is clogged. Give B&G a call. In the US they are quite helpful - once you reach them.

Hi all, I registered a plotter issue. Sometimes it freezes. No reaction to any keys nor the touch screen. Sometimes the outopilot quits. That ist annoying when that happens more than once a day. I tried to get the latest firmware, but the plotter does not connect to the internet. Even when it is connected to a mobile hotspot the download does not start. A request to b&g 2 weeks ago is still not answered. I don´t know why this junk is such expensive. I still ave to trust my navionics on my tablet. Regards Thomas |

Thomas,
Two suggestions for you. 1. Disable tracks. When my B&G is recording tracks the system seems to bog down and then crashes exactly as you describe. May have something to do with memory. 2. If the above fix doesn't solve your issue you might try to update the software, but B&G suggests you update via thumb drives, with the software previously downloaded, rather than via wireless. I had a wireless upgrade fail mid stream, and it was lengthy, frustrating and complex to get things running again. I'm reluctant about software upgrades. Lots of issues reported. recently. Good luck.

I had a very similar issue earlier in the year; the screen would freeze and lock up. I was using radar at the time too, so the processor was probably working hard. It also followed some sw updates I had done to the Tritons and the Zeus. B&G advised that its worth doing a "system reset" after installing multiple updates - which I did. (I lost a few settings & data by doing this!). I've not had the screen freeze issue since then
I do continue to suffer from corrupted / lost tracks. It seems 50nm is the limit for my Zeus 3 You can probably gather I'm not B&G's greatest fan - although the UK support is very good to be fair

Thanks a lot. "Tracks" is not enabled. I always track by navioncs on smartphone. Next I will try to update by micro sd card. Keep fingers cossed that it will work. Fair winds Thomas |
