Build time and what to expect

Night Train was delivered with fenders, mooring lines etc, but no safety equipment at all.

We took the standard package for the anchor and I was slightly alarmed to find this was a) right on the minimum weight limit for a boat of this size and b) only came with 30 metres of galvanised chain which rather limited the depths you could anchor in!

My dealer doesn't seem to have anything either.

The only person who can tell you about delivery to you is your dealer. Hanse only communicate with their dealers not buyers. In your case having the boat delivered to the US and the shipping from Europe to the US would be done by the dealer. Once in the US the boat would need to be re-rigged, the keel fitted etc. All this would be arranged by your dealer and the timing of same under their control. Safety items like EPIRB, flares etc are country dependant so the dealer or you would sort those out. If any item is not listed on the spec sheet you have ordered from then it is not supplied. Surely the dealer can tell you what they supply or don't! Hanse would tell the dealer when the boat would be ready and awaiting pick up. But for you there would still be months before the boat would be ready for delivery from the dealer. 

Maybe another forumite who has had a US delivery with your dealer could provide more details on inclusions or not and the time taken. Your forum profile doesn't mention where in the US you are. So further profile detail and details of your dealer may encourage some owners to reply.

 

Our dealer offered a commissioning package which included one of their staff visiting the factory (ours was a factory pick up) a month before we were due to arrive. They launched and test sailed the boat and ran all the equipment. They then gave Hanse a snag list of items to be fixed. Then again when we arrived the dealer staff met us and ran us through the boat and took us for a test sail. Their, not unsubstantial commissioning fee included things like filling the fuel tanks, providing gas bottles. They detailed all the their commissioning inclusions before we agreed to the service.

I visited the factory twice when they were building our 575.     Once when deciding to buy the boat, and a second time just before it shipped (Hanse wanted money before it left the factory).  Impressive process. 

The hulls are made in Stettin (Poland),  just across the border from Greifswald.     By the time the hull arrives at the factory,  all of the components to be put in the boat are there.  For our boat it took about 6 weeks once the work began.    Everything was in boxes and carts labeled for the build number of the boat and people just began to put things together.   Particularly impressive was that the wood bulkheads and panels just fit perfectly when put into the hull.  The build was so "on-spec" that there was very little (if any) adjusting or "making it fit" involved.         6 weeks was for a fairly loaded 575 with most of the options, save the ridiculously priced Williams Jet Tender and the garage additions.

When I went there,  I created a punch list on Friday (a blemish here,  a question there) and they had dealt with it by the following Monday.  `  

Its important to note that the build time IN THE BUILDING was about 6 weeks, but it can take an equal amount of time (or longer) to move your boat out of the canal and to sea. Most US delivered boats are going thru the Kiel Canal to German or Dutch ports for loading onto ships.   If you have post manufacturing work done (it used to be called "Ronnie's Yacht Werks") then that can further delay things.    For example,  I had a REVERSO oil change pump installed for engine and generator as well as a 9" B&G Zeus put into the nav station.   More time. 

Be prepared.    I wanted to see the build process so I went to the factory.   What issues I have are not with the process, but with some of the components selected (seacocks vs ball valves,  "marine brass", etc.).   Otherwise, they are a world class boat manufacturer.

I contrast this to the Hylas 49 I had built 15 years ago.  I went to Taiwan for that build as well.   Rather than well organized and executed manufacturing processes,   it was more "art" with craftsman "making each one unique" during the build.  Material all over the place, etc.   Somehow a sailing jewel came out the other end.  :-)   Very different.
