Set off on a return trip from France last weekend and found that my steaming light wasn't working.
It was ok on the outbound leg.
Checked power is ok at the mast base so I guess the bulb needs replacing.
This appears to the only non-LED light on the boat.  I wonder why?

Can anyone tell me what bulb I am likely to need to save two trips up the mast?

Stuart - I had issues with mine where the fitting for the bulb inside the housing had somehow worn down, meaning that the terminals on the bulb/housing weren't touching properly. Bending the terminals on the housing fixed it for a short time but the problem kept recurring so I changed the housing (www.asap-supplies.com got the part to me in 24 hrs).

The bulb itself is a 10W bayonet. Regret no part number on it but its a 15mm socket and 67mm long. Like yours mine was the only non-LED onboard and I'm guessing that power-saving wasn't of concern with the engine running, hence the steaming light....

All the best!

Hello Stuart,

the original 12 V lamp is a BA15 D type ( BA15d IEC 7004-11 A or DIN 49720 ).
It has 2 contacts at the bottom and two locking pins which are at DIFFERENT heights on the cylinder.
I had to replace mine as well last year and found a drop-in LED replacement. Alternatively you can order a socket for a LED or Halogen lamp,

No more trips up the mast for the next 24.000 hrs

Looks like different housings between Fendant's and mine then. Oh well - its nice weather for a trip up the mast....

Folks,

15mm Diameter sounds right, so the BA 15 D replacement should fit.

D stands for double contacts at the bottom, which Aquasignal , Hella and colleagues were using in the mast lights. S stands for single contact at the bottom, this was used in automotive brake lights or turning indicators. S also has the locking pins at the same distance from the bottom.

Just ask your local yachtchandler, he should have the BA15 D bulbs in stock.
Maybe he even has a LED replacement.
Here is a link for a conventional replacement:

Here is a link for the right LED replacement:
note the different distances for the two locking pins, power is not supplied through the socket wall, but through the two contacts at the bottom.
