I recently purchased a pre-owned 385. I noticed that there seems to be a cover where the chainplate attaches to the hull. Upon inspection & pushing on the cover I noticed water coming out of the top. The sides of the cover seem to be caulked or sealed but the top is open. Is this normal, & what is the way to remove the cover & inspect this area.

Hi SCS
First A Happy New Year to all forum members and hopefully we can all do some sailing this year. The top of mine are not open and they are sealed tight, I havent had any reason to try to prise them off, so would be interested seeing any photos of the chain plates. Are they all like this? |

just take a knife and remove the caulking around the cover.
Then you can remove it and check the caulking around the chainplate. When putting back seal all around with new caulking. Use kaulking primer. |

Thanks, you confirmed what I was thinking. Should the top of the cover be caulked? Currently it is not caulked unless there is caulking that is not visible down inside the cover. The two sides & bottom are caulked.
