Hello all,
Since my purchase of a 2010 vintage 320 late last year, I’ve enjoyed a few weekends out (and a few overnight stays in the marina) before it got too cold for the wife - who was pregnant at the time, before anyone says but her thermals! I’ve undertaken all the minor recommendations by the surveyor for basic things such as fire safety, gas pipes and regulator etc., but am now looking at further work to keep me (and the insurance company) happy. First is the seacocks and through-hulls that I’m planning to replace end of the Summer, with Marelon or TruDesign composite items. Whilst the originals are showing no signs of deterioration (including a scrape back when inspected), they are approaching 12 years old and I’d feel happier knowing they’ve been done! I’ve read the reports on here, and happy with my choice - here’s just hoping it doesn’t turn into a nightmare job. Most of the running rigging has been replaced and in good order, but the few that are looking tired will be changed soon. The standing rigging is being done beginning of June - she will be de-masted and also taking the opportunity to service the furler drum. Whilst the sails are off, they’ll also be going for a valet and inspection, and hoping I can squeeze a bit more life out of them yet (they appear to have had an easy life thus far, just dirty). Whilst the mast is down, there’s the obvious inspection of the cabling and electrics to see if anything warrants replacing. The other big job I’ll be looking at is putting a track up the mast for a whisker pole. I’m still using the standard self-tacking jib, but think it’s worth doing for ease whilst the mast is down. I’ll be adding mounting brackets for the Force4 extendable pole at the same time. BUT - is there anything else I should be thinking about with the mast off and access made easy? Or anything I might’ve overlooked? Whilst not new to the water, it’s my first yacht ownership, and keen to keep on top of maintenance without throwing money at it unnecessarily!

Duly noted - mainsail track will definitely be cleaned! Will inspect sheaves as well. Hadn’t thought about LED bulbs, as most of the interior had already been done - added to the list. And pretty sure it’s a Furlex, so should be OK there.

I got my LED bulbs from
Boatlamps years ago and they are still ok. I used this stuff as well though I am sure I got a small tube rather than the big one, so check with them. I also switched the steaming light to a combined steaming and deck LED light and though we only use it a few times, it is really useful. I was lucky as the wire to the steaming light was already a 3 core wire and in fact there a switch on the panel as well. The wire may run in some form of conduit at the front of the mast so check the location of the screw holes for your pole fitting. This is how I manage the jib downwind. |

Just a note on the LED navigation lights, we had Aqua signal series 32 bow lights. Both port and Stb lights failed after 10 years and if you read the technical information they recommend replacing red and green LED lights after 10 years. Series 32 is not longer available so we have replaced then with series 34 which is quoted as having a longer shelf life. Paul
